U.S. History at Lone Star College-North Harris
The U.S. and the World
My classes cover the important economic, social, political, and cultural changes in American history with an international focus. The early U.S. was shaped by important factors like British and other European colonialism, territorial expansion, the conquest of indigenous peoples of North America, and Texas independence and war with Mexico. In the more recent past, the Spanish-American War, U.S. expansion into Latin America, World Wars I & II, the Cold War, globalization, and the open-ended Afghanistan and Iraq wars shaped the emergence, expansion, and limits of U.S. global power through the 20th and into the 21st century. About me
My name is Chris Phlegar. I've taught U.S. history at Lone Star College-North Harris in Houston, TX, since 2015. I previously taught U.S. and world history, geography, government, economics, and senior project classes at Quest Early College High School in Humble ISD. I earned my BA in Political Science and my MA in History from the University of Houston. I love traveling and I've visited lots of big cities, little towns, and amazing state and national parks across the U.S., but I really love going to other countries and learning as much as I can about their history and cultures. I've been to Nicaragua, Spain, Mexico, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and look forward to visiting many more.
